John O’Connor

DINGLE DAYS is a follow-up to John’s Children of the Shore (2020) which deals with growing up during poor times in Dingle in the 1950s and 1960s. This new book moves on from the challenging times of the middle decades of the 20th century and gives a view of the town after the film Ryan’s Daughter (1969) kick-started a tourism boom and set it on a trajectory which transformed the town into a tourist mecca and changed its identity.
This work is strikingly in contrast with the Dingle described in Children of the Shore. Included are appendices relating to the businesses, activities and achievements of Dingle people.
DINGLE DAYS will be available in Dingle book shops/outlets from Sat. Aug. 9, 2025.
